As part of Microsoft’s Cloud Growth and Insights (CGI) team, you will help foster a data-driven culture, enabling customers and partners to manage their cloud costs and operationalize their goals. The team is responsible for developing and scaling the high-volume data platform that helps Microsoft customers make informed decisions. You will be leading a highly skilled engineering team, driving the delivery and management of innovative data solutions to meet the growing demands of cloud services.

Cloud Growth and Insights (CGI) supports Microsoft employees across various locations, offering flexibility in terms of remote work and office hubs in Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, and Redmond.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Principal Engineering Manager, your role is crucial in shaping Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure through the development of high-performance, scalable big data solutions. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Architecting and Developing Large-Scale Big Data Platforms: Design, develop, and maintain reliable and scalable big data platforms that support sub-second query response. You will be responsible for building solutions that cater to large-scale data storage needs and ensure high levels of performance.

  • Strategic Data Planning: Plan and build long-term roadmaps for data strategies, data foundations, and data assets that meet both current and future needs. This includes identifying key opportunities for the team and partners to leverage data to drive business success.

  • Managing Engineering Processes: Oversee all aspects of the engineering process, from architecture and implementation to security, compliance, quality, and schedule. You will ensure that the data solutions developed by the team meet Microsoft’s high standards for reliability and scalability.

  • Service Health and Continuous Improvement: You will be obsessed with service health, striving for the highest quality and Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Ensure the delivery of high-quality datasets built on Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) frameworks.

  • Talent Acquisition and Team Building: Continue to build a strong engineering team, attracting and retaining top talent. You will focus on creating a collaborative and high-performing team culture.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you need to meet the following qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of people management experience.
  • 8+ years of programming experience in C#, Java, or equivalent object-oriented programming languages.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong technical expertise with 4+ years of experience building and running high-scale services in one or more of the following areas:
    • Big Data Workloads on Open Source Big Data Stacks (e.g., Hadoop, HIVE, SPARK, HBASE).
    • Distributed Systems implementation.
    • Message-based architecture implementation.
    • High-scale OLTP or OLAP storage implementations.
  • Experience leading and delivering projects across multiple engineering organizations.

Security Screening Requirements:

  • You will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. This role involves working with sensitive data, making compliance with Microsoft’s security protocols essential.
