Job Description:

Amazon Pay seeks a skilled Corporate Counsel to provide legal support for its rapidly expanding payments business. This role focuses on various legal and regulatory aspects of payment services, such as payment aggregation, bill payments, pre-paid instruments (PPI), cross-border transactions, co-branded credit cards, and privacy. As the legal expert, you’ll collaborate with business and technical teams to ensure compliance in structuring transactions, providing guidance on information security, exploring new payment services, and handling regulatory engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise on payment and regulatory matters for Amazon Pay, with emphasis on payment aggregation, bill payments, PPI, cross-border transactions, and privacy.
  • Collaborate with business teams to assess new opportunities in the payment space, ensuring regulatory compliance and smooth product launches.
  • Draft, negotiate, and review complex payment, co-branded credit card, and commercial agreements.
  • Manage regulatory engagement, customer disputes, and collaborate with public policy and industry bodies to drive policy initiatives.
  • Monitor regulatory changes, provide guidance on compliance, and represent Amazon Pay in regulatory forums.

Basic Qualifications:

  • L.L.B. from a recognized Indian university (Company Secretary qualification desirable).
  • Minimum of 8+ years of legal experience in the financial sector, with experience at a top law firm or in-house.
  • Strong skills in drafting, negotiating, and responding to regulatory and compliance matters.
  • Ability to work autonomously while effectively communicating across all organizational levels.
  • Excellent legal and business judgment, along with strong interpersonal and communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-house experience in a financial services company.
  • Knowledge of electronic financial services, merchant processing arrangements, payment association rules, banking and credit laws, and financial privacy.
  • Familiarity with compliance requirements, including anti-money laundering (AML), know-your-customer (KYC), and payment aggregation regulations.
